Month Long Overload

It has been a month since my last post, and yes the reason is that work has officially taken over my life. I even wonder sometimes if this is really worth it, not the work, but the pressure of it. There are times when I find myself needed in six places all at once, and doing things that needed doing but finding out which to prioritize first is aggravating. And yes, there are times when I just don't want to get out of bed in the morning.

But what really gets my thungas is that I'm not getting thin due to the stress and harried state of mind.

But I'm sure almost everyone feels the same way as I do, so I'll just tighten up my screws and fix up my head. And pray that I'll get a vacation.

..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... .....

One good thing happened though, and that is I get to play in the GT. Had a good time, kinda akin to a ray of light in a storm. While my stats in the end were so-so ( 1 major vic, 1 major loss, 1 minor loss ) I had a great time and focused only on three things: there's me, the board and my opponent. So here's what happened, as portrayed in the gaming forum, as narrated by Midnight, the organizer.

Game 1 vs. Mark
Anvil of death ooops, doom did a lot damage along with the other war machines. Gyrocopter fried a lot of pesky orcs and gobbos throughout the game! Dwarves get major win even if they were outnumbered at least 2:1

Ah, Mark. Grudge match always, yet in the middle of the game I can't help but think he was taking advantage of my "long term memory jink" and procedeed in some shady stuff goings-on. Like rolling a two on an anvil misfire and saying it was nothing, till prompted by Clemence ( or was it Clarence? ) to check his rulebook and saying he can't use it for one turn. Hmmmm...

Game 2 vs. Patrick
Lightning proved to be a factor in this game, several fried ratling gunners left on the board (Patrick really had some bad rolls on the armour test). The smell of burning rat fur eventually fills the air! Orcs on the other hand manage to roll great for animosity and armour test (man this was confusing!) and they lost very little time getting into HTH. Another major traffic jam with 2 horde armies facing off in the center. Skaven troops manage to hold the line for a couple of turns but eventually start to panic and run! Orcs win big time!

Patrick the Rat King and I had a lot of fun, with the funky rules and all. It was a see-saw match till the end of the 4th round, where I just broken through his rats and ran for the hills. Nice game, very nice. I would ask him to play again another time.

Game 3 vs. Romy
What's a game between friends? Dark elves' monster army throws all caution to the wind and attacks the orc line. 2 fanatics score direct hits on the noble knocking him off his manticore but surprisingly, the beast passes his monster reaction test. Payback time as the manticore scares off several orc units before getting shot down by a bolt thrower. BS2? Large target, close range you do the math!!! Things look promising for the orcs, until his right flank evaporates before the combined might of corsairs, hydra and warriors. Dark elf magic proves superior this round - managing to get critical spells through (dominion on orc general). Dark elves score minor win!

Man, to cap it all off I get to play with Romy, one of the Dark Princes ( though I think he secretly worships Slaanesh ). Mad mad game, see-saw till the 5th, when bad rolls overcame my orcs and just stood there being massacred by elves IN CLOSE COMBAT!!! Arrrrgh....

But as they say, a friend stabs you in the front, not in the back, so its all good, hehehe. Will definitely ask for a rematch.

All in all, a great time. Balance is shifted. Mind is stable. Tolerance levels are at 0%.

..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... .....

I finally got my Warmachine for Alger after a long wait. While all of minis inside weren't damaged, but most were unglued ( some arms, legs, heads etc. )because of the shipping process. The only one left standing proudly is the Ironclad, and that really says something.

I made my list based on what I have now, and which I hope to play against the Warmachine group anytime this year. How I wish there are some players here, even in Bacolod or Cebu.

Warcaster: Captain Victoria Haley
Unit: 10 Threnchers
Warjacks:
1 Ironclad
1 Defender
Solos:
1 Journeyman Warcaster
1 Gun Mage Captain Adept
2 Stormsmiths

Total: 499 points

Basic strategy is to delay the enemy using Haley and the Trenchers. The Defender gets pumped by Junior to hopefully take out huge chunks of the enemy warjacks while the GMCA and the Stormsmiths try to snipe the unit leaders or cause disruption on the warjacks. The Ironclad is there ready to rumble in case someone or something breaks through the line.

I'll try to test this once I get back to Manila.

..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... .....

Thoughts on Superman, which I watched a couple of nights ago.

1. The intro was a trip through nostalgia, what with the background and zooming letters.
2. Cyclops got ditched by Phoenix for Wolverine, then moonlighted over to a different comic universe only to get ditched by Lois Lane for Superman. Sad. But a funny 'crossover' nonetheless.
3. Lex Luthor with his mannerisms. Funny, I didn't see that coming, picturing him to be a ruthless megalomaniac.
4. Great idea using scenes from the old Superman movies. Marlon Brando's voice is timeless.
5. Brandon Routh does a good credit to the series. At least I get to see how people never see the connection between Clark Kent and Superman only by removing his glasses.

..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... .....

And now, something to whet the appetites.

Topher Grace as Venom? Hmmmm....this should be interesting, considering Eddie Brock is built like a linebacker in the comics, and Topher is...well, a pansy. Still, we'll see if this turns out well.

Bloody Hellfire?! Nick Cage as Johnny Blaze?!! WTF?!!! Hmmmm, at least half the movie will be done by CG actor, flaming skull and all that, but it does take a large wind off the sails.

Anyhow, I'd better get back to work and concentrate on my overtime. Arrrrrgh...

State of Mind: Salad Tossed
Song of the Day: Vindicated by Dashboard Confessional
Now Reading: The Light Fantastic by Terry Pratchett
Now Looking for: Long Gunners!

Man, your two vids just started my day right!

Venom will NOT be played by Brock Lesnar?!? Pfft! Boo!

Ghost Rider! I don't care how cheesy it all came out. Astig pa rin ang Rider!

Haley eh? The only Haley player here is on mini-wargaming hiatus. In any case, you haven't faced any of my red boy armies for a long time, dude.

Sad to say, Topher Grace will play as Venom. I think they were looking for someone the same age as Peter Parker.

Hehehe, yup astig pa rin yung Rider! I'm thinking it's still CG, there will be tons of effects hopefully, and less Nick Cage.

No Haley?! Pucha, I need to get there and play and put the fear of Haley unto the group! Arrrrgh...

Hopefully, there will be time when I get there in August or September, hehehe.
